This morning we ate breakfast with the kangaroos and a little bird that landed on Willy’s leg. We got ready to walk the 12.2km Mount Stapylton circuit by running the first couple km’s before the rocky uphill track began. From there, it was a never-ending walk to the top. At about 45 minutes into the walk and reaching a nice lookout I stated that “this must be it, this is the lookout”, but I was wrong. After more winding, rocky paths and some caves that sheltered us from the wind, there was a straight upwards climb right before we finally reached the top. It was an amazing 360° view and we could see the lookout that we were at yesterday, it looked so tiny because it was so much lower than we were.
We had never actually climbed to the absolute top of a mountain before (even though it was only 230m change in elevation); it was still an exciting achievement. What goes up must come down so we made our way back to the car and drove to Mackenzie Falls and the Balconies Lookout for some more amazing scenery and landscapes.
