The drive to Townsville was really scenic with mountains and sweet smelling sugar cane crops. The best part about driving along the east coast of this country, is that drivers in oncoming traffic will flash their lights 2-3 times to let you know if there’s a cop running a speed trap ahead. I had a slightly heavy foot at the beginning of the drive because these highways are long, straight stretches of road, so it was a nice reminder to slow down, without a ticket!
After moving to Australia with just 2 suitcases each, and working and studying for 2 years, we finally get to travel this amazing country. Follow us on our road trip up the east coast to Cairns, through the outback to Alice Springs, down south to Tasmania, and complete our loop back in Sydney - 16000km of pure, unplanned fun!

On The Road Again
After staying in one place for the past 6 days, it was hard to hit the road again. We didn’t get far because we stopped 5km down the road at Conway National Park. There was a 7.4km walking circuit that led to a lookout point from atop of Mount Roper which provided a great view down onto Whitsunday, Daydream, and Hamilton Islands. The track then wound down to a beach which seemed like a great spot for a swim until we saw a small shark swimming near our feet! We had good intentions to leave town early today but by the time we eventually drove out of Airlie it was 4:15pm.
