We finished the drive into Airlie beach this morning. The sign driving in said that it is the “happiest place in Australia” and it’s easy to see why. It was a beautiful +30 degrees outside, a background of turquoise water and white sand and most importantly, a TV on with the Superbowl playing! Jenna picked the winning team and I was disappointed with the final result, but soon got over it given where we are.
We were able to take some time to explore the backpacker filled town. There is actually a Lagoon like pool to swim in because it is highly advised not to enter the water (especially at this time of year), because of all the deadly marine stingers. We are extremely excited about leaving for our Whitsundays tour tomorrow for 3 days of sailing on a catamaran. Neither of us have ever done anything like this before, and we are eager to try a dive at the Great Barrier Reef.
